HELLO FALL, how are you?

HELLO FALL, how are you?

Did you know Saturday, September 22, is the start of Autumn? That’s in a couple weeks. And sure enough, temperatures are dropping just as kids have returned to school.

I have busy getting ready for Fall/Winter with upcoming craft shows and such, and a big focus on my pillows made from Pendleton Woolens.

I live near the Mill End store so in addition to a decent selection of fabric by the bolt they also have what has become a favorite; mill end scraps by the pound, brought in weekly and dumped into large bins on wheels. Along with other craft-makers, artisans, fashion and interior designers, I rummage through the heaps. Its fascinating to see what other people are drawn to and what they intend to make. I have been able to find gorgeous blanket fringe, large plaid remnants with raw industrial seams and can glimpse the new releases and forever classics straight from the mill, being prepped for the next season. All fodder for new and one of a kind designs.

I have a crew of talented folks and here are some recent creations. Pouches in a range of sizes which are great for gift cards or coin purses.

And a newer idea…tell me what you think of these. Plant holders or tidying bins some call them:

If you’d like to see more, check out my MT HOOD COLLECTION

With all these products coming in I need to make room in the studio. So, I’m having a BIG SALE – 20% off for the last 20 days in September (including many already marked down items). Watch for the next post to see what’s included. Almost everything that is ready made with the exception of Pendleton wares and made to order items.

Thanks for reading and enjoy these last warm and sunny days of Summer!

CYBER MONDAY SALE NOW THRU NOV 30th

CYBER MONDAY sale going on at STUDIO TULLIA on Etsy.

Untitled.pages

Lots of great gift ideas as well as loads of velvet, fur and other richly hued pillows for the holiday season.

Use coupon code CYBER2016 to get 20% off everything at my  ETSY STORE !

I’ll post some product highlights soon.

I just got back from Chico, California for Thanksgiving. Had hoped to launch this sale sooner but the internet reception was pretty spotty where we were.   I needed a break from screens anyway before revving up for our final month of 2016! Sure was nice to catch up face to face with so many wonderful family members and friends.

How was your Thanksgiving?  Are you feeling as sluggish and stuffed as I am from feasting for three days and long hours spent on the road?

Best,

Suzanne

VELVET…

VELVET…

Ive always loved velvet…for its purity of color, and its durability. So soft and seemingly delicate to the touch and yet, most of the time, you can wash it and it comes clean.  The other thing that’s great about velvet is that patina, that like no other, develops over time and that only comes from years of wear and tear.

Here are a few lovely interiors starring velvet as the lead role:

This Fall 2015’s design trends include velvet as they often due this time of  year. This is nothing new. The royals have been donning velvet frocks for years. Still being reinvented in fantastic ways today. I’ve been awestruck this past several months while watching The Tudors and Reign on Netflix (highly recommend both) with their incredible velvets, furs, brocades…

And, some velvet covered objects for your viewing pleasure:

It was a turquoise velvet that truly launched my Etsy store in 2011.  I had a bolt of gorgeous bright turquoise that I’d found at an estate sale and I decided to make a pillow and post it. It sold right away and I could not make them fast enough after that, until the whole bolt was gone (that was a sad day).  Turquoise happened to be the Color the Year in 2010 and I sold a boatload.  Color of the Year in 2012 was Tangerine Tango, and I sold another boatload of orange velvet.  What will 2016 bring I wonder – rose quartz and serenity?

I stock LOTS of velvet in my store. Some are limited stock, well discounted pieces, I come across on my hunts, and others I order from Kravet, Schumacher, Pindler, Manuel Canovas, and so on:Velvet Palette Fall Winter 2014 - 4

Sometimes I add Greek key Ribbon:

Well,  I am off to MEXICO with my lovely family in a couple days. Time to unplug.  It’s going to be Christmas in Mexico with the grandparents and their custom built house in Puerto Vallarta. I’ll be sure to share some pictures.

Happy Holidays to you and thanks as always, for reading.

INDIGO is here to stay – and why it’s so hot.

INDIGO is here to stay – and why it’s so hot.

blue jeans
I’ve been doing some research on INDIGO as I am always fascinated with current design trends, and why certain colors and textiles start to saturate the marketplace. The use of INDIGO textiles has been on the rise for several years in fashion, interior design and art. A recent article on Livemint.com summed it up pretty well: “Indigo is now the poster pigment of ecological responsibility and the crafts revolution; the flagship shade of the natural dyes movement that runs parallel to eco-friendly fashion and organic style. Interest in natural indigo has been scattered in the past decade but the revival is now visible everywhere”.
– check out the article by clicking on image below.

Rajesh Pratap Singh's ikat wool in indigo

Indigo dyes are natural, organic dyes. Using indigo is making a statement: to step away from chemically processed dyes and goods that are harmful to the environment. The look of indigo is more crafted and not mass manufactured. It fits right into the folksy, crafts revolution taking place around the world. Dark blue and navy blue have forever been classic and constant, like blue jeans. Indigo today is global and modern.

Here are some pictures of some lovely products or applications of Indigo found in art, textiles, interiors, and fashion… for you to enjoy.

The new HGTV Magazine and the old Striped Pillow

The new HGTV Magazine and the old Striped Pillow

I used to work for Randolph & Hein, a posh showroom in San Francisco, about ten years ago. I really wanted to work there because they had Osborne & Little and Designer’s Guild fabric lines. Old time favorites.  The quality, colors, style, and marketing of these iconic English companies was wonderful to sell and be around. Not to mention the trade shows in NY, London, etc where I got to meet Tricia Guild, Nina Campbell, Anthony Little.   Such characters, great style, and so many gorgeous fabrics!  I was fortunate to be in the right place at the right time when fabrics were discontinued and fabric wings were being given away. One of these great silks ended up in my collection, that I ultimately used for a pillow in my store.

Just my luck,  HGTV magazine chose to feature the pillow with the fabulous fabric that is not available anymore in their debut issue hitting newsstands on October 4th.

http://www.chron.com/life/article/HGTV-Magazine-debuts-Oct-4-2191560.php#photo-1629511

I have tried to track down this fabric, made several phonecalls, emails… to no avail.

Well, I have been revisiting Designer’s Guild’s latest offerings and per the usual, everything is fabulous.

I did happen to find some wonderful silk fabrics that might be appealing to a reader who likes the above pillow. What do you think?

I thought I would also share a few other fabulous shots from Designer’s Guild’s website:

Just a weekend at one of the chateaus where they have their photo shoots would make me a happy girl…

PINK CAMELIAS

PINK CAMELIAS

This is my first blog and I am happy to announce I have just launched my online shop STUDIO TULLIA on ETSY.  If you need a Mother’s Day Card or a hand-crafted party favor please visit: www.studiotullia.etsy.com  There are only 6 items for sale as of today, but when you have three year old twins and are able to find some time to yourself, husband willing, nothing seems trivial.  It is a start. I am hoping this blog will motivate me to be creative, to wake up my mind, which has been in baby land since my children were born in April of 2007.   I hope to share my thoughts and inspiration with a budding audience  in exchange for insight, resources and great ideas.  I chose the image of the flowers for my first post because they are PINK and because it feels like SPRING.  And, I dedicate my new beginning with STUDIO TULLIA to my daughter.    I shot this image the other day with my iphone while we were on a walk.  My daughter,  like  many other girls her age,  really loves the color PINK.  She has been my biggest fan so far as she has managed to discover many objects that I had made a few years ago while I was developing the concept of STUDIO TULLIA.  She has found three pillows that I made in the garage which are all very little girl-like. I am not sure who I made them for, maybe my two young nieces, but for some reason I kept them. Now it seems as if I had made them specifically for her all along.   Maybe I had. Maybe they were the pillows I wanted to give to my daughter, which I had wanted for so many years before having, and I just never admitted it to myself.   It has been quite awhile now since she has found them and she still seems quite comforted by them.  She has come across some of the cards I have made in my studio and has been quickly drawn into the details and sparkle from the vintage glass glitter.  She knows they are special, has been given a few, and seems to really enjoy them. From as far back as I can remember she has had a keen eye for fashion, color, and details and I actually really respect her opinion.   So, thanks to my dear daughter, in part, I am reigniting STUDIO TULLIA this Spring.  And we all know that Spring in Portland is a magical thing.
